Sentients are vehicles controlled by advanced AI that have become self aware. In the Revengers case, all of their sentients come in the form of cars. This was done after Gates rescued them from Skynet and their intended purpose. He placed them in civilian type vehicles to disguise them in case Skynet came looking for them and to give them a free life of their own. Ironically he would come to meet a group of these sentients again as their owners joined forces with him to fight against Skynet as the resistance.
