KITT the Knight Industries Three Thousand is the result of Knight Industries technicians and Gates working together to upgrade KITT in order for him to better combat against Skynet. As Gates discovered KITT in his original Knight Industries Two Thousand body was pretty outdated and thus he struggled against Skynet. He knew that if KITT was going to participate in the fight he would need to be heavily upgraded. Originally KITT was going to be upgraded with a Camaro body, but thanks to a little bit of tinkering from Cherry to alter his blueprints he turned out to become a Lamborghini instead. KITT didnt mind this however, the new body grew on him immediately.
In addition to many system, weapons, and technical upgrades, KITT's AI was also upgraded to the same architecture that Gates's own sentient cars use. Cherry also made sure that he was fitted with a little extra "something something". A little bit of "hardware" to go with his upgraded "software".
