They are the battle androids that made up the Skynet Trooper Battalion. A vast majority of these sentries were GT-12 units and would be commonly called android troopers as they resembled stormtroopers clad in all white. But the real sentries were clad in all black. These black sentries were elite android troopers that specialized in close quarters combat mainly, though there were a few that wielded laser rifles. A few of these elite versions were also RX-09s and MS-09 units which were superior to the GT-12 units in every way but were most costly to build and manufacture. While the white sentries were deployed in large scale battles and general warfare, black sentries were put on specific missions, tasks, or were assigned as guards for Skynet installations or important personnel. Black sentries are more dangerous than their white sentry counterparts because they have more aggressive programming and often carry melee weaponry.
