Sentients are a class of artificial intelligence that have become self aware. Most of these have become vehicles in some way, either cars or other mechanized units. In some occasions they are found in mainframes as well. Sentients were developed mainly by Gates back when he worked for Skynet's Technological Research Division. When he saw what these AI were capable of he didnt feel it was right to let them be used as tools by Skynet, especially with Skynet's ambition to reshape the world. Gates fled Skynet and took most of his AI creations with him. However enough research was left behind for Skynet to pick up where he left off, creating their own sentient AIs.
