KARR stands for the Knight Automated Roving Robot. He is the prototype version of KITT built by Knight Industries. KARR's AI was an extremely experimental new concept utilizing a vast amount of subroutines to govern his actions. However, once activated his AI became self aware. This was not intentional and was actually caused by a programming error. There were several of these oversights and errors which made him very unstable and dangerous. KARR was programmed for self persevation unlike KITT which was programmed to protect human life. As such KARR demonstrates a complete lack of empathy for humans and considers them merely as tools or a means to an end. He has quite an ego and considers himself superior to all things, even his successor KITT. Hes ruthless and unpredictable due to his unstable AI. Seeing as this was a serious problem, the KARR project was put on hold and the technicians of Knight Industries deactivated KARR. They placed him in storage until a solution could be found and that solution ended up becoming KITT the Knight Industries Two Thousand. Once KITT was constructed KARR was supposed to be dismantled and his parts used as spares for his successor but for whatever reason this never occurred and over the years KARR collected dust and was left abandoned in an old storage warehouse. One day that old warehouse is broken into by thieves and KARR was stolen. With this action they unknowingly reactivated him which lead to disastrous results. The thieves committed crimes with KARR for a while until Michael and KITT got on their trail and battle ensued. KARR and KITT were like rivals when they encountered eachother The thieves were apprehended eventually but KARR escaped. There were many back and forth stalemate battles with KARR always escaping in the end till one battle ended with Michael outsmarting KARR causing him to drive himself off a cliff. KITT and Michael thought that was the end of KARR when he exploded in the ocean, however KARR survives this and is found by an unsuspecting young couple months later when the tides recede. They dug him out and thought they hit jackpot by finding an intact car buried in sand. However when KARR was reactivated once again, he immediately remembered the events of his last encounter with KITT and was furious. He wanted revenge against Michael and KITT. The last encounter damaged KARR's systems and he knew he needed to be upgraded. He forced his newly acquired driver to disguise him and then drive him around to carry out his plans. Those plans did include breaking into the FLAG Mobile Unit and forcing Bonnie to repair him and upgrade himself with a laser weapon that was meant for KITT to wield. KARR would then ditch his driver seeing no more need for him and confront Michael and KITT to a showdown to settle things once and for all. Using the stolen laser from FLAG KARR damages KITT however, KITT destroy's KARR's laser by reflecting the beam back to the emitter right through KARR's sweeping yellow scanner. Although damaged KARR would not be outdone, he prepares a final attack utilizing turbo boost and being driven by raw emotion he would not swerve out of the way this time. KITT and Michael take on his challenge and turbo boost as well. KARR is destroyed with the resulting collision; his body torn to pieces. KITT and Michael survive the impact due to KITT's more robust molecular bonded shell body. KITT drives away victorious however, unknown to both Michael and KITT, KARR's motherboard was undamaged and lays on the ground within the wreckage intact with LED's still blinking. Eventually the remnants of KARR would be found by Skynet and taken to their California headquarters where the AI would be utilized in a large scale prototype combat mech. KARR in his new mecha form did not speak anymore as Skynet re-purposed him in a more militaristic fashion. However, his memories were intact. Seeing the Revengers storm the base to take on Skynet reminded him too much of his old nemesis. With the anger of his past backing him he unleashed hell on the Revengers with his new Skynet weaponry. There was a long drawn out battle with the Revengers but KARR was eventually destroyed by their teamwork. His defeat contributed to the fall of Skynet's California main headquarters.
