They were in development since the 1970s. Sentries are cheap and easy to mass produce going through a complete automated system of construction. Their armor plating consists of refined aninium which would later be replaced by gustanium as technology progressed. There were 2 types of GT-12 sentries in service within Skynet; the standard white trooper which made up the Skynet Trooper Battalion and the elite black sentry which were known simply as "Sentries". The white sentries were often called troopers due to their white plating resembling stormtroopers. They always carried laser rifles as their main form of attack but they were also capable of hand to hand if the situation arises. The black sentries specialized in close quarters combat and had more aggressive programming for intense combat. Their processors were overclocked for faster reaction time and had thicker armor plating in critical locations. They often carried melee weapons instead of laser rifles though some also carried laser rifles if it fit their mission parameters better. Black sentries were also equipped with a type of active camo making these quite dangerous during ambush operations where they would literally look like they were materializing out of the walls. GT-12 sentries neural nets were not given sentient AI, instead they utilized a simple AI. The black sentries had more advanced AI but it too was not sentient.
