Kalithium once it reaches a hardened state is highly resistant to cold temperatures as its always somewhat warm well after it has been cooled.  This makes it great for use in the G-suit as its warm armored plates will act as insulation against the cold.  It is also resistant from breaking down due to intense heat, since it normally resides deep within the earth where temperatures are the hottest on the planet.  Thus, planetary re-entry is no problem.  It is technically more resistant to re-entry than the NASA space shuttle.  The metal is also highly lightweight for what it is, an oddity of its atomic chemistry.

Despite the heat and cold resistance the metal's downside is that it's armor value is pretty light against combat weaponry.  Strong plasma and laser blasts will burn right through this metal ore.  Same with plasma swords as the heat generated by those weapons far exceed that from within the earth.

Gates discovered this ore from all the time his base was underground. His advanced machines and technology could go where most humans couldnt and he discovered this natural occuring metal deep within the earth. When the metal is brought up to cooler temperatures it often hardens with a smooth appearance. The metal is also naturally dark colored and lacks a reflective sheen like most metal armors.
