For a while teleportation was thought to be impossible, not even Skynet could figure it out yet. However, Gates was a genius and through his studies of quantum physics, mathematics, and the help of his technology, he realized such a thing is actually quite plausible. Knowing this, he created a prototype to attempt a proof of concept. The prototype was a medium sized round platform that would sit on the ground but could also be mounted on top of a vehicle such as Hank, his combat truck. During some test runs with his dimensional teleporter, some adamantium ore suddenly fell off of a shelf and landed in the middle of the teleporter beam which had not the proper calibration to teleport anything. This caused the inadvertent creation of refined adamantium. Research and development of the dimensional teleporter is still ongoing as there has been no successful run of the machine for its intended function. So far only the Gates from the mirror universe has been able to get their dimensional teleporter working properly.
